Mako watched Tahno’s eyes as Tahno.. circled him. He thought for a moment, for a strategy. There was so much for Tahno to learn, yet not as much time as he had wanted. Mako knew very well that he could hit a moving target, long distance wise but that time had passed. There was too much information to process, Mako didn’t know where to start. He had to pinpoint how much Tahno knew, how he could use it and his reflexes. Mako bit his lip, rethinking his decision. Finally, he replied. ”Light spar. Then we move onto drills. Then more sparring. Are you ‘man’ enough for it, pretty boy?” He sneered, gaining distance closer to Tahno.

From the looks of it, they were in an open space, more than enough room for both of them to fight, practise moves, or whatever else Mako wanted to show him. He laughed pitifully, shaking his head as he flexed his fingers and checked for the last time if his glove was actually working. “Works for me.” He started, taking a few steps back, away from Mako, as he took a stance. It screamed ‘Waterbender’, but maybe it’d be enough for now. Probending had taught him to keep light on his feet, and he doubted the Fire Weasel would be enough of a threat.

“Y’know, by the number of times you’ve called me ‘pretty boy’, I’m starting to feel reallly wanted here…” Tahno lolled his head a bit to the side, a playful grin on his lips. “Do you think me that good-looking, boy? Your girlfriend should hear about that…” He pointed a finger, before rushing to throw Mako a nice jab.

He quickly dodged the jab, fading out onto his right side. His jab hand coming around and pulling him forward. His right hand coming underneath Tahno’s jab hand and chopping right where Tahno’s solar plexus should be. He then pulled on Tahno’s jab hand, pulling him forward, slipping his lead leg through Tahno’s lead leg in the process. ”Don’t open yourself up so much next time.” He said, raising an eyebrow. A small smirk slowly starting to irk it’s way onto Mako’s lips. Oh, how he’s been longing to do such a thing.

Mai became even more angry at him. She noticed his attention to everyone else in the restaurant. She gave a snicker smile, and then her face went completely blank. “Two can play at this gave.” With a snap of a finger Mai started crying, getting everyone’s attention back to them, soon their waiter came back over to see if things were okay. Mai kept her head down and gave a hidden smile.

Mako’s jaw dropped. Out of the blue, Mai just bursted into tears. But how!? He was panicking. Suddenly recalling that, she was, infact, of royal descent. He patted her head. ”I’m so so—” He caught the sudden uprising of her cheeks. Two can play at this game? Well I could play it better. He shot a glare at her for a moment, before he, himself bursted into tears. ”B-But..WHO’S THE FATHER?” He choked out, practially choking on his tears at this point. His face turning into a slight purpleish red as he dropped his head on the table.

Mako’s lips pressed together forming a thin line as he stood in deep thought. There weren’t many places in Republic City that you could call ‘safe’ exactly. Considering Amon and his followers (Equalists) basically roamed the streets freely now. They destroyed anything that came in their way in capturing the Avatar or taking anyone’s bending away. Mako nodded to Katara in reply. It hit him. There couldn’t have possibly been a place that was safer in Republic City than the Undergrounds. But there were some slight complications. They had to go back to Republic City. He bit his lip. He didn’t really know how to put this to Katara. Knowing how devastated she was, and all. ”I know of a place..” He started. ”But there are some…slight complications on getting there.” He said, a hand trailing to his neck as he rubbed a spot. Pabu whimpered.

Katara’s heart pounded, waiting for Mako’s reply. Her other options zipped through her head, but there were few of them and none of them seemed attractive. Then, he finally opened his mouth to speak, and she relaxed.

So he knew of a place? Brilliant. But something about the tone of his voice was off. Doubt? Fear? She couldn’t tell. And then he mentioned “complications” and she understood. Her entire journey with the Avatar was full of “complications” and she often barely made it with her life.

But she would do anything now. Wasn’t an aged life like her’s worth less than the fourteen years she had put at stake then? And Aunt Wu had predicted a peaceful death…

“I don’t care if it’s at the top of a mountain or the bottom of a lake,” she said.

Mako sighed. He didn’t really know how to put this. They would have to go through the city and underground-while dodging off many Equalists at the same time. But of course, he was talking to Katara. Aang’s wife, and of course she’s done much worse. Been through much more than he has when she was only fourteen. Four years younger than he has today..

Mako looked back up at Katara, with slight confidence this time. Almost an immediate response. ”We have to go through the city and underground.” He said. The Equalists were already a given.

Mai’s hands were now inflamed and she was leaning forward staring Mako right in the eye, not even blinking. “I wasn’t saying you weren’t. I’m not saying for you to stop. I’m saying I can be friends with him if I want and it is none of your business if I am.” she hissed, she was on to good of a role to stop. “I will talk to him when I please, and if I do choose to stop, it will be my choice, not some protective fool” she hissed out again.

”I never said that you couldn’t be friends.” He raised an eyebrow. They were even now. ”They’re all your assumptions.” He muttered. All eyes were on the both of them once Mako had the chance to look around. Mako shot a fake smile at Mai, in an effort to say ‘everything-is-fine’. He looked around once more quickly. Their stares starting to fade one by one. There was silence.

Mai took her order and glared at Mako. She felt childish once again, but she didn’t want to admit she had a thing for Bolin. How embarrassing would that be? She finally decided to speak, “Well.. Do you have anything to say for yourself?” She said in an authoritative tone that made people know what line of family she came form.

Mako examined the menu, coming across the beverages list. ‘…Cactus juice?’ He wondered. ‘That must be knew.’ Mako sighed and turned to the waitress, instead he decided to order the usual. Which wasn’t really the usual, but whatever he actually knew of. He handed the menu to the waitress and muttered a quaint ‘Thank you’. Mako looked at Mai with an odd expression on his face. He quirked an eyebrow as he leaned back into the worn out red fur. With crossed arms, he replied. ”What do you mean?”

Mai crossed her arms and leaned forward, it could be seen easily from everyone in the dinner that she was seething. “Well, you were quite rude to me when I asked a simple question” she hissed, and leaned back. The waitress awkwardly came back with their drinks and Mai snatched hers and began drinking away. “You owe me an apology” she stated.

Mako scoffed as he did the same. Her bluntness astounded him. ”An apology!? Now, what exactly did I do?” He questioned. All he did was point out that she was..blushing. ‘Or was it more than that?’ He wondered.

Mai huffed, of course he would be stuck up and all rude, she thought. “I asked a simple question, and you became nosy, and were very rude to me, and you made it quiet clear that you have no interest in me knowing, or talking to your brother. I didn’t know you controlled him. My bad maybe I’ll send in a request next time, to please you.” she hissed.

”Well,excuse me for looking out for my brother.” He snapped. After all, he only knew her for what, a total of 5-6 hours? Who knew. He wasn’t keeping track. He scoffed at her inquiries. He was only looking out for his brother. Him doing his own.. brotherly deeds. He barely knew her.

Mai grew red in the face from anger, she leaned across the table and slammed her fist down. “And why would you need to look out for him because of me?” she hissed, her eyes filled with rage again. You could little sparks being produced from her hand as her breathing grew my rapidly.

”To be honest, I’ve only..known you for about..6 hours.” He stated simply, leaning back into the soft red fur again-crossing his arms as he does so. ”I don’t know you that well.” He added,hoping he hadn’t hit a soft spot.

Mai straightened her back and glared with her eyes to put her at some advantage, she made her face unreadable, and with the most nonchalant voice said, “I don’t think it matters if you know me, I was concerned with Bolin. Not you” She pulled the menu right up to her face to block out the view of Mako. Her foot was about to be stomped but she stopped it in mid-air.

He tried his best to read her expression, but it was impossible. The woman was a machine. ”He’s. My. Brother.” He said through gritted teeth. ”I’m supposed to look after him. I have been for the past ten.years. You don’t expect me to just stop.” He said, clenching his jaw. But of course you wouldn’t know, since you’re the only child.

Sighing, he replied. ”You don’t need to Firebend to defend yourself— and by the looks of it, you don’t really look like to you could do either of those.” He snapped. He was trying his best to help him, the faster they went through this the better. ”Look, I’m just trying to help you, okay? Those Equalists may seem smart but they’re actually.. really thick.” He added, knocking on his own head to make sure Tahno knew what he meant.

Tahno raised both hands, lips slightly curling up. “Woah, easy with the temper! I wouldn’t want to get burned… Or whatever sad excuse for it that you do.” He chuckled, placing his hands in his pocket as he walked after the other still. “I’m not denying the help, never said that.” He chuckled, laughing a bit at the guy’s gesture. “So, how are you going to help?” He said after a while, looking forward at the light with a bit more seriousness to his tone.
